The a+ Prix Média and a+ Prix Média Newcomer awards
In brief: the a+ Prix Média award
Starting again in 2019, the main a+ Prix Média award will be given annually to honour research and science journalism that meets the highest journalistic standards.
The winner will be awarded 7’500 Swiss francs.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
A particular request for submissions may limit entries to one media channel (online, print, television, or radio). Journalists themselves or third parties may submit entries; all work must have been previously published in Switzerland in one of the four national languages. Only one entry may be submitted per request for submissions, and the designated form must be used. Award winners must wait two years before submitting further work. In addition, all entries must adhere to the Swiss Press Council’s code of conduct.
In brief: the a+ Prix Média Newcomer award
Every year, three young journalists are given the chance to win the a+ Prix Média Newcomer award. After being selected based on innovative ideas outlined in their proposals for reporting on a particular research and science topic, each journalist receives CHF 3,000 to research and produce the proposed report, which must be completed by the specified deadline. The three completed projects are then presented online and on social media, and the journalist whose report receives the most votes via public voting wins the a+ Prix Média Newcomer award.
The winner will be awarded CHF 4’000.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Applicants must be 31 years old or younger when they submit their project proposals and must use the designated form for their submissions. Project proposals must be submitted in one of the four national languages – the use of modern media tools (e.g., videos, podcasts, and mobile journalism tools) is welcomed. Sponsored projects must be completed by the specified deadline. After they are completed, the three sponsored reports will be presented online and on social media; the winner of the a+ Prix Média Newcomer award will be determined by online public voting. Only one project proposal may be submitted per person per year and submissions must adhere to the Swiss Press Council’s code of conduct. The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences can arrange for a mentor for any interested finalist.
